Did you know that according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the number of U.S. farms has fallen almost 40 percent in the last 50 years, and small farms now account for just 16 percent of the food produced in the U.S? Stopping farms’ downward spiral is in the best interests of the restaurant industry because more small farms keep local foods accessible and cheap for operators. The farms also offer more jobs to local communities and purchase more goods from local businesses than industrial foodservice providers, which support local economies. With this in mind, we thank restaurants like Butterhead Greens Cafe for consistently using food from local farmers. Not only can we commend them for their conscientiousness but their fresh, organic ingredients make for some of the tastiest sandwiches and salads in the Savannah area! Yum!
