As the weather gets nice here in Savannah there is always that question, where can we have something to eat with outdoor siting? Rocks on the River is a great suggestion, with a lux masculine decor enhanced by lush red accents and dim lighting, with great outdoors sitting along the vibrant Savannah River Street.
The menu has your Southern influence entrees such as cornbread, chicken & waffles and fried green tomatoes along with a modern take that includes seafood, burgers and steaks. The Rocks has a decent drink menu, good wine selection and a full bar option.
As I was seated and greeted by the waitress I did not know what I was going to have for lunch and so, instead of immediately ordering a drink I asked the waitress to just bring me water while I looked at the menu. I kinda like to pair what I drink to what I eat.
Being a warm summer day I wanted something light that would hold me over for a few hours until dinner. Reading through the menu a few options sounded appealing such as the Chopped salad (14) with roasted chicken, I don’t think I’ve ever had a chopped salad with roasted chicken before, but I decided salad would be to light a fare for my hunger at the moment. Tuna Slider (13) was my other option, with Ahi tuna, wasabi, sprout and spiced onion it read delicious and I was about to order the Sliders but then the Scallops (28) caught my eye. Prepared pan seared with summer succotash, nueske’s bacon, and roasted red pepper coulis, how can I resist! And since I had decided on an entrée I though it would be a good idea to accompany it with a glass of Chardonnay.
The food did not take long to arrive once I placed my order, or perhaps time seemed to just fly by because of the seating in this vibrant River Street. The scallops were fresh and perfectly seared, sat on a bed of succotash that complimented the flavor I was looking for, mildly sweet, light and delicious. A great unexpected dish in spring.
